Linhart PR Announces Management Changes

Big changes are afoot at one of Denver’s largest and most successful PR firms:

Sharon H. Linhart, founder and managing partner, is transitioning into a new role with our firm that she started 20 years ago, and Paul Raab has been named the new managing partner, effective today. Sharon will remain involved in client service and business development through year-end, while ensuring a smooth transition for our clients and team. Beginning in 2017, she will devote her attention to her long-time passion for community and philanthropic service, as well as corporate board service. Raab, who joined Linhart PR 10 years ago, will take on the leadership role of managing partner, while continuing to serve key clients and overseeing the firm’s long-standing commitment to excellence in client service, teamwork and business performance.

Our firm’s other three partners – Carri ClemensKelly Janhunen and Kelly Womer – remain in their current roles, and our entire team looks forward to tapping the power of communications to solve business challenges and find opportunities for our clients. Later this year, we’ll host an Open House to celebrate our past, present and future together!

Additionally, partner Dawn Doty is leaving the firm to teach public relations at the University of Colorado Boulder’s College of Media, Communication and Information.

Linhart Names Streeb Partner, Promotes Meyer

Linhart PR has named senior account director Tim Streeb as the firm’s seventh partner and promoted Amanda Meyer to account director. Streeb, who joined the firm in 2003, joins the firm’s other six partners: Sharon Linhart, founder and managing partner; Paul Raab, senior vice president and partner; Dawn Doty, vice president and partner; Kelly Womer, vice president and partner; Carri Clemens, chief financial officer and partner; and Kelly Janhunen, senior account director and partner.

Linhart Promotes One, Hires One

Linhart PR has promoted Danielle Feldman to account director and hired Amber DiGiallonardo as an account associate. Feldman joined Linhart PR from Edelman in Chicago in 2011 and works with consumer brand clients such as Ancient Harvest and DSM. Prior to joining Linhart, DiGiallonardo was part of the firm’s JumpStart internship program and was a PR director for a local event production company.

Denver PR Moves

  • The City of Arvada has hired Maria VanderKolk as communications manager. VanderKolk previously was the PIO at Adams County School District 14.
  • dovetail solutions has hired Mary Kusek as a client services associate. Kusek most recently was assistant director for media relations at the Univiersity of Texas at Austin.
  • Avnet has hired Julie Wagoner as web & social media specialist. She previously was a social media specialist at Bellco.

  • Barefoot PR has added Jamie Bradley as a senior associate.

Who had it first?

Ben Kunz of Mediassociates took great offense in a Digiday column at having his website plagiarized. In that spirit, I took a look at some Denver area websites, and I quickly found one – Linhart PR – that appears to be the victim of some online theft.

If you need a website, I bet Jennifer Wezensky at JW Public Relations can cobble one together for you pretty quickly.

Linhart Public Relations vs. Indiana’s JW Public Relations

Both firms use: “We realize there aren’t always silver-bullet solutions to client challenges. That’s why we always bring together a mix of services and formulate a customized approach for each client.”

Kismet Promotions vs. Indiana’s JW Public Relations

Both firms use: “In this crowded marketplace, communicating the right message about your business or organization is crucial to building and maintaining a strong brand. It is imperative that you establish meaningful relationships with any audience that impacts your image and business customers, prospective customers, the media, employees, the community and others.”

Sherman Communications & Marketing vs. Indiana’s JW Public Relations

Both firms use: “Positive media coverage lends your business invaluable third-party credibility. Public relations can be one of the most cost-effective means of gaining positive exposure and building your brand.”

SSPR vs. Indiana’s JW Public Relations

Both firms use: “We provide every client with a focused plan to reach the right media and the right target audience. PR is not a one-size-fits-all proposition.”

Evan Carmichael vs. Indiana’s JW Public Relations

Both firms use: “Social media over the Internet has rapidly claimed its place as an essential piece of a public relations campaign. It is the new form of spreading the news by word of mouth. Call it word of web.”

Google News Submit vs. Indiana’s JW Public Relations

Both sites use: “A press release is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways of getting your message out when you have something to announce regarding your business. But to be effective, a press release must focus on the most newsworthy, interesting and unique element to emphasize the news angle.”

Linhart Promotes Two

Linhart PR has promoted Elexis Mariash to account director and Ashley Campbell to account supervisor.

Mariash helps manage the integrated communications programs that support brand awareness, trial, sales and advocacy for several consumer clients, including Chipotle Mexican Grill and Rudi’s Organic Bakery, while Campbell specializes in B2B communications, media relations, reputation management and stakeholder engagement for clients such as Johns Manville and MWH Global. She also leads the firm’s community awareness initiatives for Southwest Airlines in Colorado.

Linhart, Vermillion Win PR News Award for Rudi’s Organic Campaign

Linhart PR and Boulder-based Vermillion Design + Interactive were named winners in the PR News Digital PR Awards‘ WOW! Campaign category for “Rudi’s Organic Bakery: Let’s Doodle Lunch Campaign.” For the WOW! Award, which was given to the most innovative digital campaign, Linhart and Vermilion helped Rudi’s Organic launch the program that invited moms to upload their child’s artwork to receive a free customized sandwich box with the child’s design on the lid.

Linhart Named Chair-elect of Worldcom PR Group

Congratulations to Linhart PR’s Sharon Linhart, who has been named chair-elect of WORLDCOM Public Relations Group, a leading partnership of global public relations firms. Sharon also has been elected as one of three new trustees to The Boettcher Foundation. In this role, she and the other trustees will be responsible for the oversight of the Boettcher Foundation, including supporting and preserving the vision and mission of the foundation.

Linhart PR Inks Deal to Double its Office Space

Linhart PR has signed a long-term lease that will allow the agency to nearly double its space in the historic Baur’s Building downtown. The agency currently occupies about 10,000 square feet on the buildings’s second floor, and the new lease adds another roughly 8,000 square feet on the third floor. Linhart said the expansion was necessary due to growing client needs and continued staff additions.

Allonhill Featured in WSJ Contest

Congratulations to Denver-based mortgage due diligence firm (and Linhart PR client) Allonhill, which made the first cut in The Wall Street Journal’s “Big Innovation, Small Business” contest that highlights companies that employed smart strategies to survive the current “Great Recession. Allonhill launched with a small team during the 2008 housing collapse and has grown to more than 350 employees and is projecting $36 million in revenue in 2011.

Allonhill and Colorado-based companies M&E Painting and Travelers Haven LLC are being featured on The Wall Street Journal’s small business blog. Readers can vote for their favorite stories through Friday, and the Reader’s Choice winner will be revealed in a special report in November.

MHSMC Hosts Southwest Airlines Tweet-up

If you are curious about how Southwest Airlines used social media to become one of the most-respected leaders in online communications, plan to attend Tuesday’s Mile High Social Media Club tweet-up from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Southwest Porch at Skyline Park (located at the corner of 16th and Arapahoe in downtown Denver).

Former Southwest and current Linhart PR Digital Media Leader Paula Berg will interview Christi Day, who now runs Southwest’s online presence, and Rob Hahn of Southwest’s Customer Relations department. You can RSVP on Facebook or send an email to southwestporch@linhartpr.com.

Linhart Wins [Insert Award Name Here]

Linhart PR won something like its 6,000th award of the year, this time being named one of the Top 50 small company workplaces in America as judged by Inc. Magazine and Winning Workplaces. Nearly 350 companies competed in the contest, and a national panel of experts in leadership and small to mid-sized business judged the finalists. Selections were based on specific metrics and qualitative assessments of the finalists’ success in creating the kind of workplaces that engage employees and deliver bottom-line results.

Linhart Named Denver COC Small Biz of the Year

Congratulations to Linhart PR, which today was named the 2011 Small Business of the Year by the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes small businesses with fewer than 100 employees for their outstanding business practices, community involvement, entrepreneurship, sustainability and productivity.

To select finalists, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce required small businesses to submit an application about their management philosophy and workplace practices. Then, a team of business leaders conducted on-site interviews and visits of each finalist, which included Linhart, blue onion and Lake Arbor Automotive.

Linhart Tops Colorado Firms in Annual O’Dwyer’s Rankings

If you, like me, wondered how Linhart PR could afford to hire Paula Berg away from Southwest Airlines and then send her out of town every week so her potty mouth and semi-secret smoking wouldn’t corrupt the other employees, we have the answer: Linhart PR is crushing it when it comes to revenue.

The latest O’Dwyer’s rankings are out and here are the Colorado numbers:
#70 – Linhart PR – $4.11 million – Up 35% from 2009
#90 – GroundFloor Media – $3.00 million – Up 15% from 2009
#135 – Catapult PR/IR – $0.84 million – Up 2% from 2009
If you are interested, here are Colorado’s 2009 and 2008 numbers.

OnTheSnow Selects Linhart

Linhart Public Relations has been selected to lead a public relations campaign for OnTheSnow, the most visited snow sports website in the world. Linhart PR will lead proactive, strategic public relations activities to help build global brand awareness of OnTheSnow as the top global site for mountain snow sports, as well as position the website as an expert news source among domestic digital, print and broadcast media.

Linhart Growth Continues

In February, I accused Linhart PR’s Sharon Linhart of “talking a little veiled trash” when she was quoted in the Denver Business Journal as saying:

“In comparison to other firms, I’d have to say we’re doing very, very well.”

But give her credit – her agency is walking the walk. Linhart announced that it has hired Robin Zimmerman as an Account Executive, giving the agency 19 22 employees (six of whom have been added this year). As for Zimmerman, she will provide media relations and communications counsel for our consumer-focused clients like Crocs, Old Chicago, and ShopAtHome.com.

Denver Agency News

Linhart Named AOR for Old Chicago

Linhart PR has added Old Chicago to its stable of restaurant clients (which include Chipotle, Red Robin and Panera, among others). Linhart has been named agency of record for Old Chicago, and has been tasked with increasing brand awareness and helping drive traffic and sales through consumer media relations programs across the country. Additionally, Linhart will develop and execute a trade media relations program. Old Chicago is part of Louisville, Colo.-based Rock Bottom Restaurants, and has more than 100 locations across the country.

Linhart Edges GroundFloor in 2009 Net Fees

Jack O’Dwyer may think he is clever by removing agencies that don’t pay him enough from his agency rankings, but I’m going to one up him. From now on, every time I mention an agency – regardless of whether they want me to – I am sending them an invoice for $50. Be warned.

And if you are interested in knowing where local agencies placed on the O’Dwyer’s list released today, here they are:

• 67 – Linhart PR – $2,760,555 – Down 3.7% from last year
• 72 – GroundFloor Media – $2,607,370 – Up 5.3% from last year
• 118 – Catapult IR/PR – $834,397 – Down 5.9% from last year

(Ka-ching. I just made $150.)

Linhart Expects 16 Percent Revenue Growth in 2010

The Denver Business Journal profiled Linhart Public Relations as part of its “Beating the Recession” series, and Linhart is sounding an optimistic note for 2010. The firm, which now employs 18, expects 2010 revenue to increase 16 percent to $3.5 million. Enough growth for Sharon Linhart to talk a little veiled trash:

“In comparison to other firms, I’d have to say we’re doing very, very well,” said Sharon Linhart, the company’s founder and managing partner.

Linhart, Shanley Finalists in PR Week Awards

Congratulations to Linhart PR, which has been named a PR Week award finalist in two categories: Boutique Agency of the Year and Business-to-Business Campaign of the Year. Additionally, United Healthcare director of Public Relations (and former Linhart employee and Denver Post reporter) Will Shanley has been named a finalist for PR Week’s Young Professional of the Year award. Winners will be announced in March.

2010 Denver PR Predictions – Sharon Linhart

By Sharon Haley Linhart
Managing Partner,
Linhart Public Relations

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, the world has really changed the way it communicates. I predict business will continue to adapt to and adopt new interactive media and digital communications for everything from customer service to crisis management to employee engagement. Organizations will seek to bypass the traditional news media and interact one-on-one with key audiences as never before. The smart strategists who know what, why, when and how to communicate will rule this new world and the question of “what’s the ROI of social media” will finally be put to rest.

2009 PR Predictions

By Paul Raab
SVP & Partner,
Linhart PR

raab-paulPublic relations practitioners and organizations whose ability to add value is predicated largely on media relations will become increasingly irrelevant as the traditional media die or evolve.  PR will have an opportunity to become more focused on influence strategies, business results and relationships of organizations to society – or to become the weakest link in the brand- and reputation-building value chain.

SolaRover Selects Linhart

SolaRover, a provider of environmentally-friendly mobile power generation systems,  has selected Linhart as its national agency of record. Linhart will “develop tailored marketing collateral and implement an ongoing media relations campaign to create a regular pulse of news and build credibility with key journalists.”
