State of Colorado Study Finds Tough Job Market for PR Majors
Aldo Svaldi at The Denver Post reports:
Colorado’s workforce should grow twice as fast as the rest of the country through 2024, with many of those new jobs coming in higher-paying, knowledge-based occupations, according to a labor market study from the Colorado Office of Economic Development.
But the study — conducted by Mercer — found some big mismatches when it comes to the kind of college degrees students in the state are obtaining, and the jobs available.
“We are doing pretty good on the employer side. We will have to focus more on the talent side,” said Fiona Arnold, executive director of the state’s economic development office.
For example, Colorado graduates enough advertising, marketing and public relations majors each year to replace everyone employed in those fields in the state — and then some.

Wagstaff Adds Account Supervisor in Aspen
Wagstaff Worldwide has hired Sally Spaulding as an account supervisor in its Aspen office. Prior to joining Wagstaff, Spaulding worked for the Aspen Skiing Company, where she helped rebrand The Limelight Hotel, open element 47 restaurant at The Little Nell, and launch The Oasis champagne bar on Aspen Mountain. Prior to that, she was community relations director for the City of Aspen.
Spaulding replaces Jim Guttau, who took the Director of Public Relations position at Four Seasons Hotel Denver.

The Bawmann Group Adds Kris Kitto as Senior Counselor
The Bawmann Group has added Kris Kitto as a senior counselor. Kitto returned to Colorado in 2013 after spending seven years in Washington, D.C., covering Congress, the White House and national politics for The Hill newspaper and other publications. He continued his policy communication work in Colorado last spring as a consultant on a project involving the new recreational marijuana market’s regulatory framework.

Ex-CEO of Patagonia Joins Backbone Media
Former Patagonia CEO Casey Sheahan has joined Backbone Media as a senior advisor. Backbone, which specializes in outdoor clients, has offices in Denver; Carbondale; and Jackson, Wyo. According to the Associated Press, “Sheahan lives in Carbondale and left Patagonia in February. At the time, he said he wanted to spend more time with his family, enjoy outdoor recreation in the area and help the fight against oil and gas development on the Thompson Divide.”

Patti Hazlett has been named Director of Corporate Communications at Mountain West Credit Union Association (MWCUA), where she oversees the public affairs and communications duties for the regional tri-state trade association. Hazlett most recently was president of PH Communications, and she has led public relations efforts for a major real estate management company, healthcare corporations, Special Olympics Colorado and several professional sports organizations.

CPR Names Open Air’s Corey Jones as Arts Reporter
Corey Jones, previously a host and producer for Colorado Public Radio’s OpenAir, is transitioning to the role of reporter for CPR’s new arts bureau and online arts hub. Jones will cover a wide range of topics including museum exhibits, the theater, concerts and new-music collaborations. He joins Arts Editor Chloe Veltman and fellow arts reporter Ange-Aimee Woods, officially completing the bureau that is funded by a three-year, $900,000 grant from the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation.
