Great Moments in Journalism XXX

Well, it’s official: We have found rock-bottom for local TV news. The Independent News Network has created “local news in a box” for small markets such as Davenport, Iowa, and Montgomery, Alabama.

  1. This isn’t exactly a new trick.

When I worked on Capitol Hill in DC, many of the local stations contracted with one TV reporter to cover the DC beat for their station. These stringers did the same thing for several stations across the country, basically covering the same story of the day for different outlets. Funny thing was they would go by different names depending on their market. If you looked ‘diverse’ enough, you’d have a better chance of getting a contract in more cities. For example, one friend of mine was known as Debbie Johnson in Columbus, but she went by Delores Garcia for the San Antonio station she contracted with.
