Desperate for a laugh after a few days of subzero temperatures? Check out internationally syndicated cartoonist Leigh Rubin this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Denver Press Club. Rubin, the artist behind the cartoon Rubes, will discuss “maintaining creativity and staying inspired — all while having to meet the daily deadline that creating a daily cartoon demands. Of course, because it’s a cartoon program, he uses many visuals.”
The program is free, and a pre-program dinner at the Denver Press Club is $10.
DPC’s Gridiron Show Lands Coveted Fourth Governor
What’s better than three Colorado governors participating in the Denver Press Club’s annual Gridiron Show?* The answer, of course, is four governors, which is what Gridiron producer Bruce Goldberg and his team have now secured for this year’s show: Governors Ritter, Owens, Romer and Lamm will join the show. Tickets are still available.
Also appearing will be John Hickenlooper, Gloria Neal, Jim Benemann, Greg Moody, Fred Brown, Steve Koenigsberg and a host of others.
*If you said two governors, Bruce would like you to join next year’s writing staff.

What Is, “The Denver Press Club’s Jeopardy Night?’
I have a feeling it will end up more like Saturday Night Live’s version than Alex Trebek’s, but see for yourself this Thursday at 6 p.m. when I join the Denver Post’s Dan Haley, 9News’ Kirk Montgomery, PBS’s Cynthia Hessin, the Denver Business Journal’s Wayne Hicks and Pushkin PR’s Jon Pushkin, among others, at the Denver Press Club’s annual “Jeopardy Night.” The event is free and open to the public, so feel free to attend and heckle last year’s winner, Dan Haley.

2009 Denver Gridiron Dinner Set for Oct. 23
What do Mayor Hickenlooper, Reggie Rivers, Cynthia Hessin, Fred Brown, Gregg Moss, Steve Saunders, former Gov. Owens, Bruce Goldberg, Andrew Hudson, Neil Westergaard, Tom Clark and I have in common? If you guessed something to do with the federal investigation into the Denver Players prostitute ring, well, I can neither confirm nor deny that. But I can confirm that we will all be at the Denver Press Club’s annual Gridiron Show on Friday, Oct. 23.
Quote (Actually Paraphrase) of the Week
“In other news, the Denver Press Club reported record profits this year due to the explosion in farewell parties for Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News reporters.”
–- Cynthia Hessin, Rocky Mountain PBS, during the Fake Newscast bit at the DPC’s 2008 Gridiron Show
Flacks to Add Color to Annual DPC Gridiron Dinner
Warm up those video cameras — the Denver Post’s Bill Husted is reporting that a few as-yet-unnamed PRSA Colorado members will join Gov. Bill Ritter, Mayor John Hickenlooper and others as performers at the Denver Press Club’s annual Gridiron Show on Sunday, Oct. 26 (tickets are here).
Denver Press Club Rises from the Ashes
After years of operating in the red, the Denver Press Club appears to have turned the corner and is financially self-sufficient.
Husted: There’s a 40 Percent Chance Rick Reilly Will be Dead in Two Years
If the Denver Press Club offers to make you its Damon Runyon Award winner, you might want to think twice. Of the 15 past winners, six have since died – Tim Russert, Mike Royko, Herb Caen, Molly Ivins, David Halberstam and Ed Bradley.
NBC’s Russert to Be Honored with DPC’s Damon Runyon Award
The Denver Press Club will honor NBC political analyst Tim Russert with its 14th annual Damon Runyon award. The banquet is Sunday, April 13, at the Denver Marriott City Center. Tickets presumably are going fast and can be found here.
