B Public Relations has been named the agency of record for the new Renaissance Denver Downtown City Center. The hotel is slated to open in the historic Colorado National Bank building in downtown Denver in late 2013 or early 2014. Bravo TV network star Julia Allison has selected Key Link PR’s Kirsten Texler as her new representative. Allison has made hundreds of television appearances on NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, CNN, MSNBC, VH1 and MTV, and is a journalist/columnist whose writing has appeared in a number of national publications, including ELLE, Newsweek, The Chicago Tribune, and Cosmopolitan.
Red Jeweled Media has been named the PR agency of record for Outlets at Castle Rock, the largest open-air outlet center in Colorado. RJM will be responsible for helping grow awareness of the mall’s exciting events and new store openings, as well as helping drive traffic to the tourist destination through strategic and creative PR and social media campaigns.

The account will be managed out of Ogilvy’s Denver office with support from the Los Angeles team.

The Colorado Health Insurance Cooperative has selected The Bawmann Group to build the non-profit’s brand platform, marketing strategy and website, as well as direct its earned/paid/owned media activities and grassroots community engagement efforts. CHIC has been awarded a $69 million loan by the federal government to create a statewide, member-owned health plan that will participate in Colorado’s Health Benefit Exchange.

The Barr-Milton Watershed Association has named Philosophy Communication as its agency of record. The Bawmann Group just launched Love Letters from Kansas, a public education campaign on marriage and healthy relationships for the state of Kansas. It turns out that it was HaifleighBrandWorks and Mulligan & Co. that snagged the $175,000 contract to restore the reputation of Colorado Cantaloupes after the listeria outbreak. Said one of the cantaloupes, “We knew Mulligan & Co. was the way we wanted to go when we saw how thoughtful Diane looked in her photo on its website.”
Elisabeth “Don’t Call Me Elizabeth” Monaghan has signed on as the publicist for Erika Napoletano, handling both the promotion on Napoletano’s newly released book “The Power of Unpopular,” as well as general publicity for the notoriously shy and retiring Napoletano. The Jackson Hole (Wyo.) Travel and Tourism Joint Power Board has named Cactus as its agency of record. A $1.2 million budget will support public relations, social media, and print, digital, outdoor and radio advertising.
Things are hopping at The Bawmann Group. The firm announced it has been retained by the Centers for Health and Public Safety, Kaiser Permanente-Colorado and the College for Financial Planning to provide a variety of marketing and public relations services such as web development, advertising campaign development, social media strategy and community outreach. The USA Swimming Foundation has selected GroundFloor Media to lead the communications efforts for the national Make a Splash Tour with Cullen Jones, presented by ConocoPhillips, as well as national water safety awareness. Through the tour, Jones, a survivor of a near-drowning incident at age five and the first African-American male to hold a world record in swimming, is visiting six cities this summer to address the importance of water safety in an effort to reduce the number of U.S. drownings, particularly among minority youth.

Its been a good month for Turner PR. Turner has been named agency of record for Destination Hotels & Resorts, the fourth largest independent hospitality management company in the United States with 38 luxury and upscale hotels, resorts and conference centers. And the agency will provide a variety of strategic digital communications services to the other three clients, including daily channel maintenance, social promotion strategy, influencer targeting, corporate blog development and integration among traditional PR and marketing efforts—events, optimized pitching and guerrilla promotions.
Metzger Associates has picked up two new clients: the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association and Coalfire Systems. I was impressed at Metzger’s ability to simultaneously land two clients who presumably don’t like each other very much, but it turns out that Coalfire actually is an IT audit and compliance firm.
